I originally posted this in the General User-to-User forum and my concern is more Windows related than Mac. It may or may not be an user on a Mac computer. I apologize for the miss post. This post was not meant as a cross post, but meant to post to a more appropriate forum.

I finally got a look at "Adobe Photoshop CS2" & "Adobe Bridge" in CS2 for about an hour.

While there are some niceties about it, I found I found a major hindrance to "my" work flow.

I use the "Favorites" a lot in "File Browser" (CS) In "File Browser" sub folders are available in the folders window I use that for fast moving around

In "Adobe Bridge" (CS2) when you go to "Favorites" sub folders are not viewable in the folders pane as a list under the Favorites folder.
You must go to the thumbnail pane to select a sub-folder. Besides just out right clumsy to do, "all" my folders have names longer than the thumbnail window allows, unless I make my thumbnails huge. More often than not the end of the folder name holds critical differences for "me".

There is a Folders view, but Favorites are not available in an “Explorer” or a directory listing style view.

I felt crippled when manipulating from file to file in Adobe Bridge Favorites.

File Browser folders concept worked so well.
My work flow works so well with File Browser (CS)

I really didn’t get to check out other features must.
I was determined "Adobe Bridge" must have a preference on how it is viewed. Perhaps it is there somewhere, I couldn’t find it.
This definitely left me on a sour note with the consideration to upgrade. I suppose I could revert back to using Windows Explorer as I have previous to CS, I just don’t understand why I should have to.

I thought Adobe was working to improve work flow, not hinder it

I guess this is not an issue with users that have a limited character length for their folders.

It’s a huge issue with me.

I feel this is a couple of steps back from File Browser.

No doubt, if I had been able to explore some of the other new features I would have more positive comments… but I got wrapped around the axle about Bridge.

Perhaps I’ll get another opportunity to play with more

Comments please

Gary,

You can drag the Folder tab down to another palette. This way you can have both Favorites view and Folder view showing at the same time (Edit: I have 4 in lieu of the the normal 3). Alternatively you can add your favorite folders to Favorites view. Another alternative is the drop down menu, which keeps a list of folders under the headings: Favorites and Recent Folders.

You can also have any number of windows open at the same time, each configured differently. So you may have one configured so that favorites always showed and another folders

I’m not sure what your issue is with folder name length since you can expand the folders/favorite palette to any width you like. Obviously the wider you make this view the less space for previews/thumbnails. If you mean that you want to see the full folder name under the folder in the preview area then resizing the thumbnail is as good as it gets this time round. You could of course use the Details view, which allows long file names to wrap unto another line.

I do appreciate your reply.

This all seems overly complicated when they could have

1. Simply left the Favorites in the "Folder View"

or

2. Allowed Favorites to have expandable folders.

Far more functional.

All the other alternatives are unnecessary if an option for the above, or as designed in CS, were there.

This is unnecessary complexity for something most users will have to use often.

If you only worked in 2 or 3 folders day it would not be as big an issue, although it is still less functional

Maybe I still haven’t asked the question clearly.

Can I have an expandable folder view of any of my Favorites folders in the Favorites pane?

If not, still, the design in CS was more functional.
If not, they’ve ruined Favorites for me.
But I must mention again… I haven’t upgraded yet.
And this will have impact on whether I do or not.
How much is unclear as yet.
I need further opportunity to toy with other new features, which I should be able to get some more screen time in the next couple of weeks or so.

The extra pane or palette for Favorites is less than functional compared to File Browser in CS

Do you find it obnoxious to have to hunt for a sub-folder in the thumbnail viewer?

Even the logic fails me.

Why would I look for a sub-folder in the "Thumbnail Pane"?

This sounds like something Microsoft would do.

I would expect this in an inexpensive file browser utility.

Even ACDSee puts this advantage in their file browser and it was in File Browser from CS.

When working with the file browser they must be brain storming stoned. The folders should be diplayed at the top and files after like explorer. With CS they were at the bottom which really makes sense and now the are all over the place. With more useless options to rearrange the files at least they could of added the option to place folders on top

A little late on the response, but I agree. I’ll go farther. Bridge is a worthless piece of resource hogging software. I could load over 100 large files (55MB) in CS’s Browser, but Bridge chokes, and never loads all the thumbnails. It’s useless to me. I have 1GB of RAM and my virtual memory is up to 4GB. Ridiculous.

Gotta agree with that – one seriously lame piece of software… I have a 3700+ Ath64 and 2GB fast RAM and it’s still sloooow….

It’s hard to better PSPro’s browser for speed and usability.

I’ve also been warming to ThumbsPlus of late…
