Hello,

I have a logo that was created several years ago and I can’t re-create it. You can see the logo/name at www.usernomics.com in the upper left corner that says USERNOMICS.

I want to change the yellow/orange trim color to white. But I want to retain everything else. I only have the image as a .gif and I can’t manipulate it. I also don’t know what font was used.

Does anyone have an idea of how this can be re-created?

Thanks a lot,

Bob

You could use the Color Replacer. Use the first eyedropper to select the first color, and the second eyedropper to add colors to be replaced by white. To get white, just slide all the "Replacement" sliders to the right. To get more or less replacement, slide the "Fuzziness" slider back and forth. Make sure "Preview" is selected if you want to see the results as they are applied.

If you plan to use this logo in any other document or larger sizes for future I suggest re-doing it
YOU need to identify the font FIRST

file new (make it in RGB mode) use decent resolution like 300-400 in case you need it bigger later for print etc
fill with 50% gray

type the text, (open character palette)

use kerning etc for spacing the letters so close
put the text layer on 0% fill
it will look invisible don’t worry
click the little f at bottom of layer palette
choose bevel -emboss
tick the down box
pillow emboss? or other to get the look of impression
then use stroke
change it to white, change thickness

DONE

You on the other hand wasted everyones bandwidth with your smart ass comments.
You tried to get a cheap laugh by making the OP look stupid, but the sad reality is that you only succeeded in making yourself look like a total dickhead.
Now you’re angry because I’ve drawn attention to your dickheadedness, and you’re lashing out at me.
The result is that the world now percieves you as an immature and childish dickhead.

Yes, a point was proven, now go look in the mirror, sonny.

The point is that you are a jackass, and you continue to expose yourself as such.
Lets look at the facts.
A newbie comes in here looking for help and/or advice with a genuine query. Instead of offering help or advice, you choose to act like a smart ass and give him a nonsense answer, in the hope that it will make him look dumb and make you lok witty.
It failed, and you ended up looking like a dickhead.
I pointed this out to you and you got upset because you felt exposed. You responded with childish abuse and insults instead of formulating an intelligent and reasoned response, thus reinforcing the impression that you are a childish immature dickhead.
Now, your refusal to back down and accept that you were behaving like a smart ass dickhead only serves to strengthen the opinion that you are an arse.

I would be deeply surprised if any of the regulars in this newsgroup see things your way.
I would welcome any comments from anyone who feels you are a victim here.

Tell me now, in all honesty.
Do you believe your advice to the OP was helpfull?
Do you believe you addressed his query with a relevant answer or suggestion? Or were you just trying to be a smart ass?

If you believe your advice was helpfull or usefull, then I would suggest you have no idea what you are talking about, and are completely clueless when it comes to using photoshop.

Either way, my point has been made. It has been made clearly. And it has been made repeatedly.
That point is that you are a dickhead smart ass who thinks he can make himself look witty by making others around him appear foolish. Unfortunately for you, it has backfired this time.

I see no reason to continue making this same point, and by extension, I see no reason to continue arguing with a half-wit like you.
Goodbye.

Well, since there is no other colour anywhere else, I would say the simplest trick would be to just de-saturate the image. (In photoshop, set IMAGE > MODE to RGB or GREYSCALE)

If you set to RGB you will have more control… then you simply use IMAGE > ADJUSTMENTS > HUE AND SATURATION, bring your Saturation slider right to zero. After that, Levels or Curves could be used to tweak it…

If you set to GREYSCALE, you will need to use levels.

Colour Replace is nifty, but a bit OTT for this job in particular.

This is pretty straightforward using the replace colour tool. Image>Adjust>replace colour.
using that method, it took me about 30 seconds to produce this. http://www.knoxsoftware.net/usernomics.gif

while replace color will work you will not get a nice sharp edged letter and the image will look deteriorated. On a gif those options will be greyed out so you must change mode to RGB or other first.

If you plan to use this logo in any other document or larger sizes for future I suggest re-doing it
YOU need to identify the font FIRST
(whatdafont.com)

file new (make it in RGB mode) use decent resolution like 300-400 in case you need it bigger later for print etc
fill with 50% gray

type the text, (open character palette)

use kerning etc for spacing the letters so close
put the text layer on 0% fill
it will look invisible don’t worry
click the little f at bottom of layer palette
choose bevel -emboss
tick the down box
pillow emboss? or other to get the look of impression
then use stroke
change it to white, change thickness

DONE

Thanks Kat. I will do this for future use. I would like to have a good copy around.

I was able to get the effect I wanted by playing with the brightness/contrast. You can see the result at usernomics.com. The USERNOMICS logo was a dark orange/yellow and could not be seen well. Now it has a brighter orange/yellow/white appearance. Just the trim part.

Thanks again,

Bob

DONE

Bob
It looks good
