I have 4GB of RAM in my XP Pro PC. How do I get to use more than the 1770MB that CS would only use?

Short answer…you don’t.

Longer answer…check around the forum for discussions on RAM with CS2.

Normal XP only allows 2GB of user space (the rest is used to map the OS into the user’s 4GB). There is a switch which allows up to 3GB (1gb is plenty for the OS). You should check with one of the windowsxp newsgroup.. Jim

Thanks Robert; just realised I searched the knowledgebase not the forum. Couldn’t find anything in the knowledgebase.

Ok, read various messages on the forum search. I’ve tried the 3/GB switch again with my XP Pro SP2, and it simply doesn’t work on my PC. Everything hangs when the desktop starts to appear, and I had to use the Recovery CD to copy the old boot.ini file back – even Safe Mode wouldn’t work!

MS says some display drivers won’t work with the 3/GB switch, mine is an ATI. Anyone know which ones will work?

I’ve tried the 3/GB

it’s /3GB not 3/GB. maybe that’s why it didn’t work?

Now you know why I’ve called the use of the /3GB switch "problematic" :-P.
