Bridge and ACR3

Bridge displays my Nikon nef thumbnails very quickly and with the correct rotation, BUT it then throws them away, and replaces them with an ACR3 preview which takes a long while to produce, fills my computer with thousands of xmp files that I didn’t want, and shows all my bracketed exposures to be similar! How do I turn the ACR3 previews off – permanently? I like the autocorrection in ACR3, it is a useful starting point, but I want my thumbnails back in Bridge.
