I used Photoshop 7 to design my web site. I put borders around the pictures, using the word "Modify" under "Search" which was black then. I want to add some more pictures with Photoshop 7 some months later. The word "Modify" is now gray and I can not use it. How do I change it back? Other things have changed, too.

I use Windows XP.

Could you explain in more detail what your problem is?

The word "Modify" use to be black and I could put borders around pictures using it. After a few months of not using Photoshop, I am now trying to put borders around pictures again. Now the word "Modify" is gray and does not work. I can not make borders.

I think she means that Modify is disabled, probably because she doesn’t have a selection.

And there is no "search" menu in Photoshop.

There is a "Search" menu with the word "Modify" on it. Yes, months ago. "Modify" was black, enabled, it worked, now it is gray, disabled and does not work. How do I get it to work again?

Go on Mikki. Enlighten us. Where exactly is the ‘Search Menu’ in Photoshop. Both Chris’s here would really like to know. (especialy Chris Cox ’cause he doesn’t know very much about this program!) <grin>

There goes my problem with words. The drop down menu is "Select" on the top. Among the words on the menu is "Modify" which I use to make borders. It use to be black, enabled and I could make borders. Now it is gray, disabled and I can not use it to make boders.

I habe Photoshop 7.

Just to echo what Chris Cox suggested in post #3.

Have you got a selection active? Modify>Border> will only come to life if you have a selection to start with.

Assuming you wish to add a border around the outside edges of the image, Hit Ctrl+A to create the selection.

Having said all that, would you not be better off using the Stroke command? I don’t have PS7 but I assume it will be available to you under the Edit Menu. Try it. You’ll put a border on you pictures in a couple of clicks.

Let us know if this has helped.

Oh yes – and sorry for having a little bit of fun with you. We guessed you ment the Select Menu all along! <grin>

Chris.
