While in CS2, when I look a photo’s "file info," all the words are cut in half horizontally–I can only see the top half of each word. I can still read it, but it’s a bit of a pain (I’m moving up from PS 7, if there’s an easier way to check exif while in PSCS2–please tell me).

My only thought on this is that I have a 22" monitor running at 1600×1200. To make the system fonts large enough to read with my old bifoculed eyes is to set a custom dpi setting (right-click on desktop: properties/settings/advanced/general tab) at 140%.

My guess is that your monitor modification is the problem. What happens when you set the font back to 100%? Other than the text getting too small. It is probable that the Adobe engineers did not program space in for over-size fonts.

Thanks, Don. I think that is the problem. I set my dpi to "Large Size 125%." Now, only the bottom third of the letters are cut off. There is no way I’ll set it to normal–everything would be very difficult to read. I’m going back to my 140%. All the fonts stand out more, and all the icons are a little larger at that setting. Running a monitor at 1600×1200 does have a few drawbacks. Tiny fonts and icons being the main ones. So, setting the dpi to 140% works very well (along with a few other appearence settings) to make things easier to see. I’ve found very few problems with the dpi setting. This is just one of them.

(BTW, I really like what I’ve seen so far in CS2. I only wish there were an easier way to check metadata of an image while in PS.)

have you set it to normal and tried setting the PS CS2 UI fonts (in prefrences) to Large?

Dave:

It’s not the PS fonts per se (although it was great to see an adjustment for them–under PS 7 they were very tiny), it’s computer wide–from desktop icons to tray icons, to Mozilla fonts. If I have my system dpi set to 100% everything is simply too small. Setting the system dpi to 140% makes everything much easier to see and has shown very few problems. The "File Info" dialog box is one of the few areas where it has a problem. Maybe because Adobe farmed out this feature (powered by XMP, whatever that is) it’s not coded as well.

try this: set the system dpi to Normal (96DPI) (display> settings> advanced> general> display> dpi settings),

then go to display> appearence and set the font size to large or extra large.

Same chopped up menu fonts here too: 22" monitor, G550 Matrox card, System Font size 125%, resolution 1280×960.

Example: <http://www.r2p2.com/ps9/>

Never seen this before in previous PS versions nor do I see it in pretty well every other app I use.

Yup, Russell, that’s the kind of thing I’m seeing. I wasn’t sure if links were okay to post, so now that you have I’ll post mine.

Here’s an example of my problem: <http://cablespeed.com/~toadstool/font.jpg>

Ok…I read it and it fixed the problem.
There.. are you happy now !! 😛

It’s not a 100% fix in that some things and now smaller (in other apps) that I preferred before this modification. But generally I can live with it.

Thanks Dave.

Yea, about what i found too. But you get used to it soon enough and it all around works better than the DPI adjustment. The older I get the more i realize that life is full of these little disappointments! 🙂

Thanks Dave.

you’re welcome. of course! 🙂

Dave,

I tried a bunch of different settings, but none were satisfactory. I could make the fonts look fine, but too many things were simply too small system wide. Thanks for the suggestions, though. Since I’m merely using normal Windows settings (i.e. I’m not hacking anything), and since 99.9% of my programs work fine, I’ll just chalk it up to a small oversight on Adobe’s part with hopes that it will be fixed in an update.

It has unfortunately resulted in way too many menus in other apps being too hard to read (I must be getting old).

I can customize the font size in many of those other apps. But there are some really important ones that do not offer this ability. All in all it’s turning out to be too high a price to pay to accommodate one app that apparently did not design their menus well.

What’s that saying regarding ‘shoemaker’s children’ 😉

It’s easier to just remember what the buttons do on those menus with corrupted text labels. There aren’t that many.

Thanks anyway.. it did at least offer a solution to the problem with Photoshop.
