PS CS is not closing its process down when exiting the application. Restarting the application causes multiple processes to occur in Task Manager in Win2KPro. AFAIK everything is up-to-date for Windows and drivers. I just started to notice this about the same time I learned that CS2 was coming out…any link to hidden code making it necessary to upgrade to CS2? That would be very sneaky…

No, but it does sound like you have a problem on your system.

Do you do any development? I had this problem on my machine after installing Whidbey betas.

Scott, I am no longer doing any development work, and I am pretty sure no development applications are running on the affected machine.

I have tried to keep just about everything other than Photoshop and the necessary Win2000 system apps off of this machine to avoid problems. I have checked for viruses and trojans as well, and found none. Photoshop just seems to hang around after exiting the application. Restarting the application causes another Photoshop process to be created. Other applications like scanning programs and RIPS seem to hesitate and wait for the hidden Photoshop to end or give up bandwidth before they start – if I try to start them after leaving Photoshop CS. If I go into Task Manager and End the Photoshop process by force, these programs start right up.

Chris, thanks for the "help". Thank you Scott for giving it a real stab!

The root of the issue I have on my portable is OLE unregistration. I’m not sure what other causes there could be. This isn’t a common problem (you’re the first person that I know of to hit it), so I don’t have a handy bag of tricks for it yet.
