Hi, I’ve got AMD Athlon64 processor. These days Microsoft releases Windows XP Professional x64 edition to use it the best way. I was just wondering, are there any plans for releasing a Photoshop 64 bit edition?

as usual anyone who knows can’t say (becuase a NDAs – non-disclosure agreements) and anyone who says, doesn’t know. 🙂

adobe doesn’t talk about future releases before an official announcement.

Too bad, because few words of hope from Adobe would be just fine.

I´m sure such plan exists, without knowing 😉

High Capacity RAM Compatibility
To make the most of systems running 64-bit processors, Photoshop CS2 can now address more than 2 GB of RAM. Photoshop CS2 can address approximately 3.5 GB of RAM on a Power Macintosh G5 running Mac OS X, or on a Windows XP 64-bit Edition system running an Intel® Xeon™ processor with EM64T, or an AMD Athlon™ 64 or Opteron™ processor.

I could tell you, but then I’d have to shoot you ;-).

Suffice it to say, if and when it makes sense for Photoshop to be a full 64-bit application, it will be.

Note that Photoshop CS2 *will* take advantage of being run under Windows XP 64 Bit Edition (using a full 4GB of address space in that case, and allowing the system to cache scratch file reads&writes when the system has enough memory in it).

Interseting that Adobe DOES NOT list AMD processors at all for CS or CS-2 as compatible processors.

Anyone have any experience with the 64 Bit AMD & Adobe appz??

Is it worth the Plunge ??

OR is PS CS2 going to freeeze up??

I’m running PS CS2 with 64-bit AMD Opteron 250 and it’s FLYING. Yeah I thought paying $825 for CPU was kind of ridiculous (~$650 now) but I have no regrets.

I thought the same when i spent 450 on an ipod… 🙂

(at least they’re still 450!) 😉

Yeah Dave, but I have another empty socket on my motherboard (waiting for second Opteron). I don’t mind looking like an idiot (overpaying for the “bleeding edge”) as long as I can get the second CPU for half that price. 😉

BTW: what’s up with those iPODs, shouldn’t they be called earPODs? <G>

On my AMD64 Athlon 3400+ it’s flying not slower. 🙂

Yes, I understand about 32 bit stepback compatibility.

THOUGH, what is the purpose of using a 64 bit system when the

only app available in 64bit is the OS, XP PRO.

I suppose the extensive bus speed & BW advantage would offer a

competitive difference, even when using only HALF the available

resouces.

BTW: I can’t figure out the difference between the 754 older

processors and the series of socket 938 & FX 55.

Let’s say I choose an AMD 3200+ 64 bit 939; then what would be

a comparable P-4 , (though NOT a 64bit P-4??)

I DO care about speed, as I’m about to replace my AMD XP

1800+. It won’t run PS-CS even with 1 GIG of 3200 DDR Ram.

I do also care about COMPATIBILITY with existing appz.
The AMD XP 1900+ seems to hang, as if waiting for a bottleneck

to open up.

ALSO, being in the IT business it seems that Pple WILL defend &

promote whatever they purchased. It is rare for any Geek to admit

any mistake.

Anyways what processor should I engage, marry, & screw with

for the next two years of 24/7 utilizations.

It just seems that P-4’s aare more app friendly and the AMD 64 bit

specs are far superior. More bang-ups for my bucks.

OPINIONS Pleaze as my urge to purchase is now overwhelming. Also considering that the Nvidia 4 chipset requires a new

Graphics PCI-Express card as well.

What to due?? The decision was far easier when P-4’s were twice

the price of the AMD XP 1900+

IS Cyrix still in business? OR a MAC?? ( and then meltdown $$$$

of PC appz)

Why the double spaces between all those lines?

Stop it, please.

That’s right geeks don’t make mistakes so there is nothing to admit. Do your own homework, sort through all the marketing hype and decide for yourself what is best for YOU. Whatever you choose today will be “old news” tomorrow anyway. <G>

there’s the crux for me. years back (386-486 era) i went with performance and got myself a nexgen (eventually bought out and became the new core for the amds). fast?!! whoo boy. BUT! … half my games wouldn’t run.

compatability first. if the app won’t run, all the speed in the world is wasted.

hth,
dave the geek – whose next upgrade will be intel on intel.

Yep Dave my first major CPU was a Deskpro, 8088 CPU.

Quite pricey in 1985
