I have two instances of the same TWAIN driver in my import selection menu. Can anyone tell me how to delete one of these. Also, in help there is mention of TWAIN Select Command — "If more than one TWAIN device is installed in your system and you want to switch devices, use the TWAIN Select command." Where might I find this command.

Thanx,

Rick

It would be helpful to post:

What Computer, that is, what are you running?

What OS and any service packs?

What version of PS?

That way, we are better equipped to help you avoid a Twain Wweck! 🙂

Rick,

I had the same problem, but then with double Silverfast entries in the Import menu.

These were plugins, not TWAIN driven ones.
After uninstalling an older version and installing the upgraded one, I forgot to manually remove the older plugin file from the Plugins\File Formats directory. Consequently, PS found two and put two in the menu.

Perhaps you have two TWAIN drivers installed. I’m pretty sure that PS scans this at every launch, and puts as many as found in the menu.

Hope this helps,

Rob

I have Photoshop CS on a windows xp pro platform, w/Intel P4 320Ghz processor and 1 GB of RAM (Sorry). I checked the Plugins\File Formats directory and there are no duplicates of any kind, however, it just occurred to me that Photoshop 7.0 is still on this machine and the files in that directory are the same as CS sans Camera Raw. Do I need to uninstall 7.0?

Thanx,

Do I need to uninstall 7.0?

No, just make sure there’s only one TWAIN driver on your system. (it won’t be in that directory)

Do a file search on TWAIN and TWUNK files and check for duplicates.

Also make sure that the duplicate entries in the Import menu don’t belong to different devices (flatbed v.s. film scanners).

I ran the search and there were no dupes in any one directory, only dupes between 7.0 & CS. However, I noticed that in C:windows\twain32, there are two instances of a direcory named hpsj000 and hpsj001 respectively, where hpsj would seem to stand for "Hewlett Packard Scan Jet" (my scanner). What is curious is that their dates of origin are approximately two months apart which would coincide with the two attempts at installing CS with only the latter being successful. Should I delete the early one? Actually, both instances operate properly from the CS import menu, I just don’t think they should both be there.

Thanx,

Rick

Rick,

Rename one of them. For instance: FILENAME.EXE to FILENAME.OLD

That way you can rename it back when needed.

Now I close my eyes for the day. Tomorrow is Queensday here in Holland, and I want to shoot people. (with my camera, I might add).

I’ll check this thread later on.

If you have two scanners, shouldn’t you have two TWAIN entries? I do, and it all seems to work just fine. I think VueScan might add yet another, but it doesn’t show in Photoshop.
