All the previous versions of PS would start with the last tool active at shutdown selected – CS2 always starts with the Rectangular Marquee selected. Is there anyway to get it to default to the last tool used on start up?

I’m not seeing this with WinXP Sp2. What OS are you using?

David – is CS2 "remembering" anything else that you changed during the session?

My guess is that it’s not writing out preferences correctly (which is usually a permissions problem).

The permissions should be ok – I’m logged with full administrator rights on XP Pro SP2. With a bit more experimenting I found it does remember most tools like brushes etc – but it does not remember the move tool – closing PS with the move tool selected it always defaults to the rectangular marquee tool on reopening.

Does it here too.

But d’you know what? I’d never have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it.

I’m of the opinion life is too short to remember what tool was active last time you closed down!

Chris.

PS: Could do with that Ctrl+H problem fixing though!

I am able to reproduce this, but only with the move tool. I am also seeing the same behavior with PS CS.

Just had to give it a try. Doesn’t happen here. WinXP Home SP1, 2gb RAM

Just checked and Photoshop CS remembers all the tools including the move tool.

PS CS would have been installed when I had XP Pro SP1, and was installed as part of Adobe CS Premium upgrade from PS 7 (later removed after CS was installed)
Photoshop CS2 and was installed as part of Adobe CS2 Premium upgrade from CS1.0
