Legit to transfer CS2 Upgrade?

Hello. I just bought the CS2 upgrade disc from Adobe and installed it. Unfortunately, my hard drive crashed shortly thereafter, and I cannot find my original PS discs (all I have are my upgrade discs from CS and CS2). If I can’t recover my hard drive, what I was thinking of doing was purchasing an entirely new version of the whole CS2 program from Adobe using their special $299 upgrade deal for owners of PS Elements who got Elements with their Canon camera, which I did. If I could sell my upgrade disc for CS2, at least this would help offset the cost somewhat.

I know I can transfer my upgrade license to someone else as long as I transfer all my rights under the license and the versions before it (which is fine with me since I would be buying a whole new version of the entire CS2 program), but since I don’t have my original discs I don’t have anything physical to transfer except the CS and CS2 upgrade discs.

So, in view of the above, can I legitimately sell and transfer my CS2 upgrade disc?

Thanks,

Peter

If I’m not mistaken, all you have to do is start the installation of CS2 and insert the CS CD when asked to by the install routine.

Thanks for the replies, but I no longer have the original CD or serial number (or receipt) of my first Photoshop program – just the CS upgrade and CS2 upgrade disks.

I went ahead and ordered the full CS2 program, so I am now just wondering if I can sell my CS2 upgrade disc.

Thanks,

Peter

just the CS upgrade and CS2 upgrade disks.

Peter. I don’t really understand the problem.

When I installed CS2 all it asked for was CS, which itself was an upgrade from PS6.

Have you actualy tried installing it?

You don’t need the earlier CDs…only one earlier version. That earlier version can be an upgrade. As already pointed out, just have the CD handy.

You can sell the upgrade, but only as an entire license, which won’t be that big a problem since you’ve already bought (unnecessarily, IMO) a full new version.

You’ll need to fill some forms transferring the license to the new user.

Peter. Since you’ve jumped the gun and ordered the Canon/Elements upgrade, you’d be better off selling that (along with your Elements disk). At least you’d be selling a sealed box! and maybe the licence transfer business will be less hassle.

As confirmed by Bob you should have no trouble reinstalling you CS2 upgrade.

that sounds like sticky territory chris, to sell the (OEM) Elements, i think he’d have to sell his camera too!

Thanks everyone. I was able to cancel my order and everything reinstalled on my new drive perfectly – I didn’t know that a prior upgrade disc alone would suffice to allow PS2 to install.

Glad to hear it. and your very welcome.

Dave, you’re possibly right. Assuming this is so, whilst you can’t sell the OEM software without the camera, I guess they can’t stop you selling the camera without the software. So I’d be selling the same guy the camera for a penny and then buying it back of him for… let me think… a penny or there abouts! <crafty_grin>
