I’m making a church directory & I need to go through all my photos & resize or crop them to 4 inches by 6 inches.

I see a tool preset already set for 5 by 4, but I can’t change that to 4×6, nor can I create a new one with those dimensions.

Thanks!

if it were just a resize you could simply create an action to do all the photos in one go

cropping requires yourintervention of course as it wouldn’t kow where to crop it it.

of course you couls set the marquee to 4 x 6 and then crop

"nor can I create a new one with those dimensions"… Really? Why not?

1. select the crop tool.
2. Type in 6in x 4in (or 4×6) in the width/height boxes.
3. click the flyout menu (where your tool presets are)
4. Click "save". This will now become a preset. Easy!

Part of my problem is I’m "self-taught", so I don’t know what the marquee is.
I probably know WHAT it is, but I don’t know WHICH one it is.

Thanks Paul,
That’s exactly what I want to do, but I don’t know where the box is that I need to type that in.
I don’t know what the "flyout menu" is.

I’ve been using Photoshop for a while, but I’m self taught. So I don’t know the terms for everything.
I need to go buy a manual to learn the official names for all the tools.

There’s a preset in place already that crops it to 4×5. It lets me crop it, then slide the cropped area anywhere I want it. This is ideal! But I can’t change the 5 to a 6, like I need it.

Thanks for your help!

Self taught? Then brian, you should get another teacher
if you did not teach yourself (the very obvious!) names
apearing when holding your cursor on a tool:-(

Why did you not simply searched with your cursor?
Or… should you rather have said you intend to teach yourself?

I’m afraid I have been forced to filter messages originating from Google, so I’ll just reply to this message.

I too kill-file Googlegroup messages too. And about the cropping to 4×6 since the OP already paid big $$$$ for his/her Photoshop so I don’t think s/he will need to use anything but learning to use the CROP TOOL.

How true. Why pull out a weed by hand when you have a rototiller?

’cause one day your rototiller may pack up,
and if you know how to,
your garden will keep in shape

Dave

do not teach them weed
rather teach them crop
