Hello
I’m trying to take some really clear good photographs and was wondering what camera anyone would recommend to take really clear photos?
Photos like those found on <http://gandoza.net/>
Does anyone know what camera that could be?

As Katwoman says, those are not photographs at all, but artificial images created in a rendering program. It takes a very good artist and technician to create images like those.

As for what camera to use, you do have some learning in front of you. Pick your budget, and get the best camera you can afford. Then study books, or take lessons from a good photographer to get started, and above all be patient.

Hmmm… I wouldn’t spend much on a camera to be used just for website photos.

Problem is, if after buying a cheapie learning what fantastic hobby (in fact new lifestyle) this is, and then have to buy again, which would make it a double buy.

Anna, like Mike said, buy the best your budget allows. But, keeping Waterspider’s words in mind, start with your cell phone’s camera.

You will be surprised what you can do with a cell phone and PS, if the photos is not to be printed. One year after buying a cell phone with a camera, I took the first photo with it when photographing something in a hardware shop I wanted to use but didn’t made up my mind yet. I have never taken a photo with it again:-0 but my wife, who is a cell phone fundi, and also owns a Fuji Finepix, surprises me what she do with her cell phone and PS.

Believe me, this is true, I have shot one photo with a cell phone up to date:-)

So, that is where you start before making up your mind whether this will be your new hobby:-)

Not taking away anything from the effort that went into making those shots as sharp as they are, why would anyone NOT consider those to be from photos ? Wouldn’t the end result be more to the program used to create those images ?

I’ve been following an ebay celeb artist for awhile. He’s very good. Up till I saw the trap door to the trick.
He took an actual photo or two, combined, and pastel blurred the two to make them look hand painted.

Hugh Hefner art work. No female EVER looked that good.

These specific photos done in 3dsmax just seem to be extremely sharpened versions of photos. Except for the Shuttle..

But even that could be a photo of a plastic model of the shuttle. You can see the jittery fingers painting the blue trim on the right wing. And total loss of detail in the windows where a photo of an actual shuttle would have gloss, reflection, and depth.
Also decals missing, and wing trim is wrong from the originals. Making me suspect a model vs working from an actual photo.
You can see an actual shuttle from http://performance.toast.net/ shuttle 14k test. Get your speed tested at the same time.

So a Radio shack digital spy pen $15.00 would do the job. But you’d learn nothing about taking pictures. You need something with some manual control for that angle. The difference in great shots [$500.00 camera on up $$$$$.$$] and mediocre [$100.00 – $499.00] – [cheapo [Disney pix $6.00 – $9.00 – 24 shots, – Pentax optio E30 7 MP, $94.99] is all about price. Way too many variables. Lens quality, lenses. Service, reported problems, etc..

They are very excellent renderings, and used as I am to photo-realism, they fooled me at first, too.

Check out the 100 percent zooms, and the "how to’s" on the web site. He goes into great detail on how some of the images were made, shows the wire frame models and textures that were used. There is even a script that people use to simulate growing ivy.

Great images – gandoza should be shopping himself around to Pixar and ILM. I bet he’d land a job there.

Granted, I wasn’t thinking of camera phones and spy-pens when I made that post; thinking of a point-and-shoot digital.
But, I’m fascinated by your comment and hope you will offer more in explanation because, although I’ve been called many things, I have never been called an idiot.

Okay, I’ll bite.

Presuming this isn’t a professional photographer’s website, what possible advantage could an expensive, high-end camera provide in taking photos that will be rendered on a monitor at low resolution? Why low res? So the 60%+ of viewers with less than high-end equipment and high-speed internet access will actually get to see them. Forcing viewers to wait a full minute for a download is a sure-fire way to chase them away.

I’ll check later for your reply. Right now, I’m going out because people tell me I should do that more 😉
