Thumbnail different from the image

I have got a picture (.jpg) where some people have a white circle over the face, not to be recognized. But in the Windows XP Explorer thumbnail I can see the faces without cover. How is this possible? Can I recover the faces?

Thumbnails can either be stored within the file, or produced from the proper image data. At some point, a thumbnail was stored in your image file, but not updated when the proper image was changed.

There are programs designed for specifically removing thumbnails, or metadata to be exact:

Or, you accomplish much the same thing by saving the jpeg as a 24- or 32-bit BMP file, then converting that back to JPEG.

Did you try : Right button on jpeg name, in the contextual menu click Update thumbnail.
