Having been scolded by ArtistMike, and further chided by Kat Woman, I offer my sincere apologies for failure to frame my question without sufficient specificity to satisfy their exacting standards for usenet activity.

Let me try again.

Can anyone suggest a general subject matter stock photo site that would be useful for a commercial print advertiser to subscribe to on an occasional basis?

An answer along the lines of, "I’ve used XYZ Photo and found their selection to be good and their prices reasonable." or "For occasional use, ABC is fine, but if you use more than 4 pictures a month, go with 123." would be extremely useful and I would be grateful for your assistance.

Again, I apologize to AM and KW for my earlier transgressions and sincerely hope to never again offend with my immature, ignorant and abusive behaviour. (Feel free, Dear Reader, to infer as much sarcasm as you wish.)

….To put it bluntly, screw’im :-). There wasn’t anything wrong with the request you made, it’s just that the activity here is so low of late I think "ArtistMike" just was bored. Then again, I’ve seen wannabee "net.gods" for over two decades on usenet act like that whenever an RFI shows up from a n00b – anyone remember "Hank the Wank" over on alt.binaries.b5 from 2000? – and they do it just to chase n00bs away to get their rocks off and make their petty lives seem grander by boosting their own shallow egos. Granted, there’s a time for that sort of admonishment, but you didn’t ask anyone to write your term paper for you. You asked for recommendations for good stock photo sites, which was no different than asking for a recommendation for a good mexican food restaurant. You’re going to get differing opinions, but that’s what you *want* when you make a request like that. So-called "Artist Mike" was simply being a jerk, so take his snotty response for what it’s worth, which was nothing.

Let me try again.

…..Before you do, a bit of advice: don’t let the "net.gods" chase you off. They may actually have knowledge worth sharing, but when they let their egos and sadistic natures take the "use" out of usenet, they’re actually more despicable than trolling trash and spammers.

Can anyone suggest a general subject matter stock photo site that would be useful for a commercial print advertiser to subscribe to on an occasional basis?

….The site I use for my professional flyer work is fotosearch:

http://www.fotosearch.com/

….It doesn’t cover *every* stock photo site, but it covers enough of them that I can usually find what I need – or something that’ll come close enough I can fake it. These days I’m missing a leg, so until the funding comes through for the fake one – hopefully before 2012 at the rate I’m going! – I’ve got to resort to these sites as it’s somewhat difficult to shoot the backgrounds myself right now.

….I’ve also used stock photos from the following specific sites that aren’t accessable using fotosearch:

http://www.tssphoto.com/
http://corporate.gettyimages.com/marketing/m06/dvRedirect/us /index.asp (Used to be Digial Vision until Getty bought them out, but the majority of their stuff still seems to be there)
http://www.mira.com/
http://www.superstock.com/

….Anyway, hope this helps, and as I said don’t let the wannabee "net.gods" dissuade you from posting RFIs and other help requests. Most of them are just trying to make themselves feel superior for some psychotic reason or another.

I second what OM said. Your question got an undeserved response.

If you hang around here long enough, you’ll discover who is genuinely helpful and who should go in the kill file.

Thank you to Mike and OM. And I am fully aware of the extent of the moron factor on usenet, frequenting other groups as I do. (You oughta see what passes for content on rec.sport.golf!!)

I’ll give Katwoman a pass, based upon your recommendations. Artist Mike is another story.

….With Forte Agent, it’s easy to send trolling trash to Killfile Hell. In fact, it can be almost sadistically addicting 🙂

It can be fun to wind AM round your little finger occasionally . He is totally predictable and his buttons are very easy to push. Just like Pavlov’s dog but less intelligent.

I have played him like this on and off over the years but when it comes down to it that, just like AM, is a waste of band space.

Q: What’s the difference between a rabid dog and trolls like "Artist" Mike?

A: Like Old Yeller, you actually feel sorry for the dog when you have to put him down.
