Hi folks. My elderly parish priest (again) gave me his camera to have a look at it this morning. A NikonCoolpix 5700. He told me that it wasn’t focusing but the problem is much more serious I think. I got it sorted out focus wise but the pictures all have numerous lines across them. Here’s a couple of examples. Has anybody any suggestions or does he need to invest in a new camera.

Personally, I think he has dropped the camera but is hoping that I can fix it somehow.

This looks like a well-known defect that Nikon may repair for free. Go to this page:

Click on the 5700 link to see if this particular camera is eligible for free repair.

Oops – here is the correct link:
http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/i ndex.page

Under the picture of the 5700, there is a link that says "Learn More".

There is a manufacturing defect with the sensor for certain models, including the 5700. I’ve had a 5400 repaired this way and the results were very satisfactory.
