Guys

Most frustrating but when I have done my editing, still a hugh learning curve though. The blooming thing compresses all my layes and locks the damn thing then I cannot go back and edit. There muse be a way of saving without Photoshop doing that so I can go back and edit. I dont always see things first time, and like to go back to it later and usually I spot something I need to alter

and that is WHY it does

You’re either doing "save for web" or deliberately saving as a JPG or GIF. Read up on your formats – JPG & GIF etc don’t support layered content, and they also highly compress the output for the web.

Save your work files as PSD and PhotoShop will retain all the document information, layers, guides, smart objects and everything else. Only "save for web" or save as a JPG when you want to distribute your final file to the web.

I suspect she isn’t making layers at all yet, possibly doesn’t understand what layers are, and why would the file be "locked up" unless she’s trying to save back to a CDROM. She’s using SAVE on a JPG, and that’s it.

Yeah, you may be right.

Well a quick google for "photoshop layers tutorial" will get her started.

my post:
Baby girl
it’s not that the questions are dumb
your questions are just about very BASIC techniques
so people here are saying there is already an ABUNDANCE of info about these and so many already written and filmed tutorials if you will GOOGLE or look in the HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (you tube has
many many vids)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Adobe website has MUCHO Materials and instructions

the things you are asking are very elementary to using PS well it is wise to spend as much time as possible learning selections and masks (properly no shortcuts) as this is the MOST important technique you will need for almost any image manipulations of the more complex sort…

open a picture
make a new layer above it and fill with a color like blue then click the little rectangle with a circle inside at bottom of layer palette
this makes a white thumbnail next to your blue layer
now click the thumbnail to activate painting on the MASK not the layer itself
take a paintbrush in black and paint on the mask (not the blue) to reveal the layer below

this erases the above layer visually but it is still there if edit is needed any part can be "put back " by using the white brush on the layer

selecting areas with wand or marquee and then click mask will make an auto filled mask
\TRY IT

erasing will work but will give you grief later, trust me

PSP is Paint Shop Pro format
PSD is a Photoshop document format

you should only see psp in he list of formats if you’re in the other program or you downloaded a plug-in for that

Excuse me I was being polite and replied saying thanks, so if anyone should be reading posts its you, Kettle Pot Black springs to mind.

You rude individual, try some manners it can work wonders

And for your info, I have subscribed to Russel Browns website and tutorials, also Adobe, and bought a couple of books and signed up for a 2 day Adobe Photoshop course, and I subscribe here to ASK BASIC QUESTIONS, if you dont like dont reply cest la vie.

Get you head out of your own backside girl, as stated before you were a beginner once and probably asked some dumb ass questions, how easy it is to ridicule those who dont know now that you are a fountain of supposidly all knowledge.

Some of us have great knowledge/experience in other areas and I would not dream of being as rude as you are to someone who clearly wants to learn, I encourage questioning.
