I run Windows XP and I would sell my soul to the devil (if I believed in either) to know how to get rid of the ultra-lame Windows Picture and Fax Viewer that loads automatically when I plug my memory card into my puter. I can’t find any default program settings on that, or on my os for image downloading.

Can anyone help me out with this?

not sure this will work

when the box comes up look at the bottom of the window
click option box that says
do nothing with these files
then click>always do this action

if you disable AUTOPLAY (what give the dialog)
it will also disable your DVD and any other devices from auto-play

old win users will have np (my comp>find disc>choose what you want)

my problem was reverse after changing USB ports could not get it to detect the reader!!

in folder options you could change the file association of jpg or raw not to open with win picture fax
maybe the dialog will add your preference? Bridge?

If you want to upload direct to Bridge open it first then use that IMPORT choice
then no windows options come up when you plug in

I think (only been using Bridge for a couple months)

Bridge auto rotates my images
but then in Win comps they are all sideways

so I upload to Win Fax, rotate using the thumbs
then open folder in Bridge, add my metadata template to all the files

then use it to sort

that way when I make a CD for clients the pics are rotated correctly

Not true. each -=type=- of file has a ‘Do Nothing’ for -=each=- device. You can ‘Do Nothing’ with images and it won’t affect a DVD or CD.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, and I appreciate your suggestions but I’m no further ahead.
Here’s a bit more information, because I’m convinced that it’s something really trivial that I’m missing:
– My auto-open program for .jpg and most other image files is Photoshop. – I’m wanting the system to do nothing when I put in the memory card (the Windows Wizard is faster than Adobe Bridge).
– I’m running XT with patches.
