Wow…the content-aware scaling looks very beneficial. The extended depth of field feature should be nice also.

I think the Content-Aware scaling is related to the old Edit-Perspective feature that people would try to use to correct converging verticals for example, buildings that tip when the camera is pointed up. After fixing convergence, one had to stretch the image. Now perhaps such correction will be done in one step using a rule-off thumb.

Still waiting for the virtual Scheimpflug plug-in. 😉

Weird mix of files (in CS3) anyway, and I never could get it to work reliably on my Mac Pro *shrug*. I have seen some really, really nice work done with it in files exported from Maya.

For me the "must buy" feature is the rotating canvas. That has annoyed me so much from the very first day I started using a wacom tablet!

That is curious. Most applications of Rotate Canvas are to adjust to accommodate a horizon, and for a long time (many versions) of Photoshop one could use the Ruler tool to show what should be level, then Rotate Canvas – Arbitrary would make it so.

Is this another ‘feature’ for people who don’t know how to use PS’s existing capabilities?

Or something else?

It’s like turning/adjusting your paper when you draw.
It has nothing to do with staightening your horizons, it’s just there to make your life easier when you draw.
Your image stays exactly the same, your artboard rotates. Very handy with a wacom tablet, maybe even more so if you use a mouse. And the speed by which all this can be done is just incredible. Flawless!

Like Fred said 🙂 Yes you can rotate the image (or layers) within your canvas, but you could never rotate the actual canvas itself as if it were a sheet of paper. For example, I’m detailing a physical drawing, I’d possibly rotate the paper around so I can more accurately draw. You can’t do this in PS, until now. Painter X has this feature, and it’s something I’ve been QQing over for years in PS. I’m very happy it’s finally arrived!

I really hope they have expanded on the metadata management and metadata "filters" as they call them. I need to have the ability to filter in Bridge by any metadata field I choose.

Hi ,

One fatal flaw with your method was I had to know what I wanted to filter on, which I don’t, especially when I’m looking for typographical errors in IPTC fields. I have no idea what some photographers have ingested into the files. And of course your method also does not integrate with the filters panel feature of Bridge CS3 so it can do, among other things, let me click on metadata info and filter images automatically, and do mass IPTC data changes. This is being used as part of a seriously fast deadline workflow managing IPTC data and it is frustrating that Bridge CS3 goes ALMOST all the way but just falls short. I wish there was a registry hack to allow more elements to filter.

My short answer is that you cannot expect software to make up for the lack of care of your content submission persons. And as you know, or should, that when you impose your needs as constrains upon the photographers the outcome of those who comply will come back to you as utter CRAP whether they are creative photographers or not. So what might you get? A photographer who makes his metadata perfectly compliant to your rules – and the photos are absolute crap.

Enough.

….And that short answer hits the nail right on the head. You can only work miracles if you’ve got clay to work with. If they bring in gravel, the best you can do is pave a road to hell.

well if you don’t know how will PS and the computer know? ESP??

sounds like you need SPELLCHECK not metadata filter
META DATA filters by HEADERS that are STANDARDized to EVERY camera info (never mispelled)

there is INDEED a tool to EDIT and refine KEYWORDS in Bridge that is a separate step and function from filtering
It can be applied to large batches as well

my camera does not allow the author entry to be filled automatically

after uploading images I apply a template I made that DOES not affect orig metadata but ADDS the name and address phone copyright info rights etc to it

Seems to be proof you have never used CS3 bridge filters: It shows you all possible values of all the files in the folder.

So if you are looking at keywords for 100 photos and one was wrong it stands out like a sort thumb because the filter panel shows a total of 99 items with a keyword of, for example, "Paris" and one which says "Pairs".

I love this feature. I just wish I could pick the IPTC fields to filter on. It’s a lifesaver for checking metadata before archiving or final submission

Wait. Find is integrated with Filters. You can use a single query (of up to 32 criteria, including "all metada"), and you can save and combine various Find queries in Sets and select multiple sets. Using either or both, by using a template you can also add or replace specific fields in IPTC to files that the Find or Set found, for example in a keyword field you could put the American English spelling of a foreign country where the author did not.

This is being used as part of a seriously fast deadline workflow managing IPTC data and it is frustrating that Bridge CS3 goes ALMOST all the way but just falls short.

Bob, rather than more elements, do you actually mean you wish to filter on specific IPTC Core fields (rather than All Metadata at once)?

To get this nailed, can you provide a specific find/filter that you cannot do now?
I would accept the challenge to do it and make it easy.

Hi, All the fields on the "IPTC Content" and "IPTC Status" panels would be ideal. But specifically the Headline, Description, Document Title, and copyright notice would be fantastic.

Thanks

I tried playing with the Find feature some more today and if it would let me leave the search field blank, i.e., to let it return all the different values it found, that would be a big help.
