Greetings-

I am trying to create a layer mask on a photograph that smoothly blends the photograph into a color (let’s just say 100% cyan).

If I highlight the layer thumbnail and use the gradient tool, I will create a color gradient over my photograph.

If I highlight the layer mask thumbnail and use the gradient tool, I will create a gradient that gradually turns my photograph transparent.

Is there a way to blend the photo into a color?

Thanks,

Alex

As with nearly everything in Photoshop, there are usually 3 ways to do anything you want to do.

One way to get what you want is to create a new layer, position it below your image in the layer palette, and fill it with the color you wish.
You can then use a layer mask on your image layer to render it gradually transparent, revealing the color of the layer below.

Flatten your image, and you’ve got the effect you were after.

I would go with an HSB Ad-Layer.
Make it the colour you want with Colourize, and then put a gradient in the HSB Ad-Layer’s mask.
