When using CS to transer an image to a network everything is fine, but if I try to get said image back on local pc will get the message "wrong kind of document". Hence file will not open.

Have no problems when using Photoshop 7 so the problem must lie with CS.

Does anyone have this problem and is there a fix for this. Most of my working enviroment is transfering files across a network.

Would like to use CS on all PC’s in the network but if this problem persists then will have to stick with PS7.

No version of Photoshop (even 7) supports saving and opening across networks.

I think it’s got something to do with error checking. You can get away with it but errors can occur.

The recommended method is to save locally and then copy the file to its final destination.

Actually, we do that all the time, it’s part of our workflow as well. No problems encountered here with opening or saving through the network with any version, including CS2.

maybe so, but it’s not "supported" unless you’re doing it with version cue. 🙂

Have been saving files across a network since version 4 and for a few number of years with nothing like this problem. Have 4 networks to choose from and all have the same problem with CS/CS2. If PS7 and earlier do not have this problem then what has changed in CS to have this problem occur.

I Know that CS need sevice pack 4 (win 2000) to run optimally but would this cure this problem (installing this would need other fixes to the networks as well-so do not relish having to do this)

Any Ideas

Probably a small change in the API calls for files triggered it.

In any case, it’s most likely a problem with the server or permissions on the server.
