in cs or cs2 it can conform to any path shape (see text on a path in the manual or help). in 7 or lower it’s just a box. you don’t state your version, so…
Bogdan,
Not possible…
Ronald
….nice way of of getting the point over!
John – How did you do that? Can you do that with any shape? Is your "You Can Do It Ronald" text (too funny, thanks) editable?
Use the Custom Shape tool.
Select and draw the shape.
Move to the Type Tool.
Set Font, size and colour.
Click inside the shape at top left.
Type or Copy the text into the shape (it will conform).
In the Paths palette, load the path as a selection.
In the layers Palette select the Background layer.
Fill and stroke as required.
Save your work!
Yes, if you reopen the file the text is editable.
Cool eh?
Well John, you are one of my new favorite people. I have been trying forever to be able to wrap text around an object. After your short tut, and a bunch of hit and miss, I found out how to do exactly what Bogdan was looking for:
Use the marquee tool to create a rectangle.
With the alt key, use the marquee tool to take a ‘notch’ out of the rectangle – the notch will be where you want your graphic that the text will wrap around.
In the paths palette, click the "Make Work Path From Selection" icon (4th from left on CS2)
Grab the text tool, click anywhere inside the newly created work path, and type or paste text.
You might need to tweak placement of the text ‘not-a-box’ and/or the graphic to get a good looking wrap.
And – if you ever need drop caps in Photoshop, this is a way of doing it.
Thanks John Joslin!
D’you know: One of the nice things about this forum is that you can learn things that you didn’t even know you wanted to learn – until you learned them!
I remember smiling quietly to myself as I overheard two photographers talking at a professional association meeting. "why would I want to go on the Photoshop course" one of them said, "I know the program inside out"!
Now I’ve been pushing pixels for more years than I care to remember, but I can guarantee that on any seminar – or even just spending half a day in another photographer’s studio – I will come away with at least one ‘golden nugget’ to add to my treasure chest.
Thanks again John.
Chris.
John,
Fantastic! (and witty too :-))
I stand corrected and pay the penalty by saying a hundred times: I will never ever say again something can’t be done in Photoshop, I will never ever say again something can’t be done in Photoshop, I will never ever say again something can’t be done in Photoshop, I will never ever say again something can’t be done in Photoshop, I will never ever say again something can’t be done in Photoshop, ….
Ronald
I don’t have the possibility to try it in PS 7. Maybe someone else can jump in.
not available in 7. you’ll need to upgrade if you want this feature.
