Hi,

I am trying to figure out if adding a graphics card to my system will in anyway improve my work in Photoshop CS2 / Elements 3 or if I should spend my money on something else? My current specs are:

3,0 Ghz P4
1 GB RAM
200 GB SATA HD
Intel GMA 900 (integrated graphics)

Thanks for any advise!

I’d go for more memory and then I would get some more memory!

It might improve performance slightly because right now the video is running off system RAM.

I ‘heard’ that there is a trade-off using an external graphics card.

Reasoning is: integrated graphics are just that – hardwired into the mobo

Using a separate graphics card means an extra layer of data handling as it has to go through whatever system controls plug in cards.

At the time the conslusion was
integrated graphics slowdown factor = 1
graphics card slowdown factor = 1.5

It was important at the time dunno if it still is…

No – Granma doesn’t like ‘puters

I read it somewhere regarding trade off between integrated functionality on mobo and plug-in functionality

It was Windows 95 time probably about when Win 98 appeared so, in computer terms, really is rather dated

my advice is to take your drug of choice (jack danials is especially recommeded for this) and try to forget that. 🙂

Forgive me if I am mistaken, I sure may be, but it was system resources related.

Oh for a great memory…
