Hi,

Is it possible to centre text over a picture? I have a photo in one layer and then text in another layer and I want to centre the text, but I am unable to do so. I can move the text around freely with the move tool, but I would like it centered exactly.

Also if I have a template photo of a certain size and I would like to replace it with a new picture that is larger. How can I insert this new picture into the template and reduce the size? Because when I drag the new picture into the template you can only see part of it as its too large.
Please can you help!

Thanks very much and have a nice weekend!

Julie

1) Use guides, you can drag them over when you have rulers on. Or go into VIEW> NEW GUIDE set horizontal and vertical to 50% this will give you the exact middle of the image. Go to the text layer free transform the layer and place the middle dot thing on the criss cross of the guides. Then if you want to move it up and down just remember to hold shift so it won’t move side to side.

2)Move the image over and try to get it so you can see a corner of the larger image if you can’t zoom out till you have alot of gray area around your image and then do a free transform. (Ctrl+T)

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the fast reply.

I dont really want to increase the size of the canvas/template as what I am trying to do is: we will add these pictures onto the web and they all have to meet our guidelines and be of a certain size, so we dont want to have to increase the template each time. Is there no way where I can drag the picture into the template and then make it smaller?

Thanks

Julie

Create a selection around the text, cut and paste. It will be centered.

Put your text anywhere in the image – anywhere.

Ctrl-A to select All. Click on the move tool, look at the options bar.

Also if I have a template photo of a certain size and I would like to replace it with a new picture that is larger

Drag or paste your larger image onto the smaller canvas, hit Ctrl-T for transform, then lock the aspect ratio in the options bar. Drag to resize or enter values (pixels, percentages, points, etc.)

Peace,
Tony
