From what I’ve read, if you have a licensed copy of 7 installed, CS or CS2 will activate without problem. If it’s not installed, you will need to insert the 7 disk. You wouldn’t need the 4.01 if you’ve upgraded.
I Like to do clean installs. Funny, I went to the purchase part of the Adobe website and entered my 4.01 serial…no problem to purchase…I would most likely uninstall 7.0 and do a clean install of CS2. Probably just need to insert the 7.0 upgrade disk when asking for prior version. I always use the 4.01 disk when asked to install 7.
Thanks

Michael,
You’re confusing activation with installation. In order to install the upgrade you need a copy of PS 5.5 or later installed on the system or if you wish to do the installation on a new machine, the actual installation CD from 5.5 or later.
Note that the 5.5 can be a full retail version of upgrade-it doesn’t matter. So even if you started with version 2.5 and upgraded along the way, you’d still be able to install the CS2 upgrade.
If you only have version 5.0 or earlier, you’ll still be able to install the upgrade but you’ll need to call Adobe for some special instructions to do so.

Thank You for all the help. Found CS2 at Fry’s this morning…brought it home. Uninstalled 7.01…cleaned my registry up a bit and installed. Used my 7.0 disk as proof of ownership…all went smooth as silk. CS2 is great! New features that are very useful, etc.
