We just upgraded our computers to photoshop CS.

now we are experiencing problems with graphics created from older versions of Photoshop that have text in it.

The readme file warns of an incompatibility in this area due to the new way Photoshop CS handles text.

Is there any work around to this? It is unacceptible that we have to redo all our graphics that have text in them. that is too time consuming.

I can’t find anything in the knowledge base on this topic

What problems are you experiencing?

sorry, I reworded my text a couple times above and deleted the details.

what happens is that if I open a photoshop graphic that has text in the graphic, that text becomes distorted to the point where we have to completely delete that text field and recreate it.

this is a problem for us given we have lots of graphics for web sites that the next time a minor change in text is required, we have to redo the graphic or at least the text layers.

This was the case with some pics I created in Photoshop V7.

in some cases where the graphic was from an even older version of Photoshop, CS would not even open that graphic!

Odd. It’s hard to imagine what you’re describing, or what might be causing it – normally if there is an issue with a text layer, you receive a message specific to the text layer (like "this text needs updating, okay, cancel).

So we come to the issue of distortion. Since we don’t know you and your level of expertise, it’s important to mention the following. If the file is opening in Photoshop, be it 7 or later, and you are not getting a message indicating something about the text, check and see what happens if you do nothing other than open the image, and then try a File|Save – not save AS.

If the file has changed, as a result of distorting text for example, then the Save menu item should be active. If it has not changed, the Save menu item will not be active.

What this does, IMO, is isolate whether we’re talking about an anomaly of perceived distortion or a true distortion.

You might then view the same PSD in another image viewing program and evaluate whether or not there is distortion.

Finally, what kind of distortion are you seeing – skew? And, are you evaluating the text at 100% Magnification?

Posting a couple of examples and telling us the link might help as well. You can use something like imageshack.us or another free service.

Peace,
Tony
