Why are people listing their junk on here for sale.
It’s everywhere. People are talking advantage of the openness of usenet, and desperately wringing every last dime they can from the system before it collapses. If only one in a thousand people clicks on a spam link, that keeps the spam juggernaut going. Spam would die tomorrow if people followed these three rules: *never* quote spam, click on links, or directly respond to the spam in any way.
To protect yourself from spam, switch to a different usenet provider, with better filtering, such as www.motzarella.org. Also consider paying or donating several dollars a year to a service like this, that does better filtering.
I subscribe to a.g.p from two news providers at the same time: att (free with my DSL connection) and motzarella.org (a free usenet service). The att news groups are seeing a pulse of spam at the moment, while the motzarella news groups have little or no spam.
Finally, usetnet is in decline, though far from dead. Although I will personally be here until someone turns out the lights, the best Photoshop discussion is no longer here in Usenet, but on web based boards such as www.dgrin.com, luminous-landscape.com, and www.retouchpro.com . No spam, no flaming, the ability to post images, and a higher level of expertise. If you have not yet looked at them, you are in for a pleasant surprise. —
