Hi,

I need a quick solution.

I have many various sized pictures (landscape and portrait) and I have to put them in a final size (500×500). I`ve tried everything.

It was almost fine but there are 2 types: landscape and portrait. Only worked just with one of them. I need 1 "Action" which will transform the almost 800 images for me ASAP.

Has anyone a solution for me?……..ASAP of course.

Thanx

Record an action using File – Automate- Fit Image. It does exactly what you want.

Do you actually want to make rectangular pix 500 x 500? Or do you want to make them the same shape, but with the longer side 500?

If the latter, then I think there are some actions out there for this, and possibly Dave or one of the other Action Wizards can point you to them.

If you really want to make them 500×500, how do you plan on this … cropping or distorting?

I think I may have misread the original post.

First sort your images into horizontal and veritcal subgroups.

(It’s easy using windows explorer with view details set and click the top bar to add additional columns. (Right click on the Name label for the dialogue window and then click on "more" at the bottom, and finally scroll down to check on dimensions)

Next question:
Do you want to squeeze your images (distort them?) or crop your images. Squeezing looks bad but is easy.

If you are cropping, you have to decide whether you need to pick a certain part of the picture. (If you do you’ll need to put a pause (stop?) in your action at that point.)

Your action can be
1: Image>resize image to 500 pixels -on the short side (it’ll be different for Horzontal or Vertical groups)
2; Image >canvase size 500 pixels by 500 pixels
It is very easy to elect to just resize from the center or one edge. I Don’t have much experience inserting a "Stop". I know to access the extra properties in the actions dialogue window – the triangle in the upper right corner, but I don’t know whether this will work in the middle of the resize dialogue or exactly how you would to do it… In any event, you would then have to examine each image which will slow you down like crazy.

Another method could be to use the crop tool in an action. Set crop tool to 500 x 500 pixels and use it to define the part of the image you expect you will want to use every time. (You might not even need to separate out vertical & horizontal images in this method.)

Next try it on a few images and see if you like the result. Maybe it’d work on all but say, 40 images which you could redo manually. That’d still save you a lot of work…
Let us know how you make out!
