I am thinking about upgrading a 7200 rpm hard drive in my laptop to an ssd drive.

I was wondering if these drives will result in a real performance benefit for photoshop editing in particular.

I read that because of the differences in read/write times and other factors, ssd drives may not improve performance in some situations. Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn’t use SSD drives just yet — The performance of them is all over the map. Wait until the technology improves. SATA is still faster and reliable in my opinion.

No, the reason they’re used mostly (today) is for the power savings on small devices <ie> netbooks; therefore less heat, no fans.

This will surely improve going forward. In terms of productio; It’s not always sane to be on the bleeding edge of technology.

That’s correct.
