The cursor for the active tool switches itself on the screen seemingly on its own. I go under Preference and Displays & Cursors and I always have the Painting Cursors on Brush Size and Other Cursors on Standard. While I’m working, the cursor will switch itself to precise even though none of the settings are on precise. I couldn’t figure out if it’s something I’m doing (can’t isolate a specific event for the occurance) or the system.

Could be you are hitting the Caps Lock key by mistake. This key toggles the cursor between brush size and precise.
