have photoshop ver 4.01
windows xp
384 ram
pentium 3 500mhz

can i upgrade to latest version of photoshop?

my ver 4.01 recently started locking up the monitor

Yes, you can, but you’ll find your current machine pretty sluggish for all but the smallest of images.

You’ll also need to call Adobe to install it since the installer will only recognize Photoshop 5.5 or later.

Upgrading is only going to make things worse. You need to fix whatever it is that is broken in the computer. If version 4 used to work fine, but now the monitor locks up, then something in the hardware is broken.

Software does not degrade, or go bad, over time. Upgrading means you will be putting bigger, more powerful software on the machine that remains broken.
