PS CS2 trial activation with upgrade serial number.

I have been running from a CS2 trial CD for two weeks. I successfully activated CS1 on a workstation and two laptops. The first laptop totally fried, so I couldn’t even deactivate. No problems mate. Thank your Adobe.

This problem is on my new Windows XP Pro laptop only. CS1 was and is installed. The workstation is a P3, and CS2 is just a little buggy, so I am not ready to upgrade it yet. But, I did order (and receive) the CD upgrade from Adobe, with the books and all (no download version).

When I try to activate the trial version with the new CD serial number, the menu tells me that I need to enter a valid serial number to activate. It does not try to contact Adobe online. I tried every button, with and without the serial from the CD. It won’t even give me the Adobe activation phone number.

Can anyone help, or do I have to uninstall the trial version and install the CD version? I don’t want to have to go through the hassle of trying to save my various updated settings, actions, scripts, styles, shapes, and on and on. I have only 10 days to resolve this.

And yes, I searched the FAQs and the forums. And yes, CS2 is still losing random image files. That problem is a week old. I was at a local photography group meeting tonight and others have seen it as well. They just haven’t been motivated to attempt to address or report it. They assumed that they did something wrong.

Cheers, Rags 🙂

I’m going to guess that the trial versions get special serial numbers that can’t be used with CDs. Note that this is GUESS.

Installation issues receive free support, so give Adobe a call. And if you do, please be kind enough to stop back and let us know.

OK, my bad.

I contacted Adobe phone support and they did not seem to know if the activation number was connected to a specific CD image. They suggested uninstall and reinstall. I finally relented.

The activation number still did not work. Close examination with a magnifying glass showed that a 6 was smudged and looked like an 8. Ouch.

FYI, the uninstall did allow me to save my custom settings. The PSCS2 settings seemed to carry across pretty well. I did have to copy a few atn files, scripts, and such. The Bridge and ACR lost everything. And these were the settings (camera defaults especially) that I wanted to save. Oh, well. Just a pain.

It does not look like the activation number is tied to a particular CD. It is checked with modulus arithmetic before attempting the activation in the first place. I’m up and running again.

My Oops.

I had a G that I thought was a 6. Took me a couple of trys to fix it. Sux getting old. 🙁 😉

Hi,
I have tried to download and install the "tryout" version of Adobe Photoshop CS2. While I did that, I put in my information and I was able to choose either a 30-day trial version or I had to put in a serial numbers. I didn’t have serial numbers nor I didn’t think I was given any to me. So I selected the 30-day trial version and it told me that I needed to put in my name and put in my serial numbers. I did put in my name and I don’t know what the serial numbers are because I wasn’t given any! I don’t have a CD for the Photoshop CS2 because I thought all I had to do was use the "tryout" version of Adobe Photoshoip CS2 so I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
