tanerazi, i am running PS7 on a XPpro system and i’ve got the same issue. i was just searching for a solution and saw your post. my only "work-around" has been to rename the file and delete the original.

Work-arounds are not my favorite practices, but i’m hoping others have an actual "solution".

I’m in the same boat… I’ve had this happen half a dozen times since installing CS2. For the record, I’m running Win XP Media Center.

And as you said, the file is NOT open elsewhere.

For PS7 the most likely cause is psicon.dll plus some bugs in the Windows explorer.

For CS2, the most likely cause is that you have the same directory open in Bridge.

Thanks Chris, I wasn’t sure it was "only" Adobe’s problem, as I have not had any of my MAC buddys complain about this. Is it because I have the directory displaying "thumbnails" (being a more "visual" individual and not great with remembering filenames…) instead of "list" or "details". Do you think it would help?? Should I replace "psicon.dll" (if so, how?)?

Thanks again,

That’s because the Macintosh doesn’t have the shell extension DLLs, or the bugs associated with them.

Remove PSIcon.dll – change the name to psicon.old, or delete it. That will get rid of the "already open" errors, but it’ll also remove the explorer icons for PSD files.

I’m using Photoshop CS1 with Win2000Pro and I’ve got a brand new problem. After scanning an image, opening it in CS1 and working with it, I save in the usual way. When I go back later to open the file, CS tells me it’s not the right kind of document. Well, I beg your pardon, CS, but I just saved the file as a PSD, as I’ve always done. I also tried saving as a tiff with the same result. Ideas anyone?

try using file> "open as" and select psd. it sounds like the extention is messed up…

and new problems belong in a new thread. open up a new one next time! 🙂

Or he’s got some file corruption (Norton? Bad disk?).

I’ve tried deleting/renameing psicon.dll (windows 2000 pro, photohsop cs2) but still get the cannot delete file. Any other ways of killing the problem? Usually if I wait a day or two I can delete the file.

did you reboot after renaming the dll?

Yeah, I actually renamed it months ago, and still about every other week I run into this problem.

illy has the problem too, if you have that. i think that dll is called aiicon.dll.

I’ve long since killed both files.

cs2 has some issue with brige being open to the folder that contains the file you’re working on. not as serious though from what i understand. close brige, i think, is the (temporary?) solution.

No bridge open either. As I said, it usually fixes itself if I wait overnight, but if the problem hits me in the morning, it slows down my work flow all day.

The only known causes are Bridge, and the old psicon.dll. Some other application could have the file open (like another browser) or may have left an explorer extension DLL around that tries to create explorer thumbnails (and runs into the same explorer bugs as psicon.dll did).
