Hi

Have downloaded and installed the trial version of Photoshop CS. When I run it, photoshop loads up and then I get a fatal error and the PC reboots, the error message didn’t stay on the screen long enough to read so I tried again and photographed it.

The error message says that:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And advises to check if any new hardware / software is properly installed. As far as I can tell everything is ok, is there a way to find out what is causing the problem? I thought that it might be to do with my SATA driver, but that appears to be up to date.

Chris

Yes, that is a driver problem.

si3112r.sys is the OS level driver that is causing the problem, and yes it’s part of your SATA system. A Google search shows several problems with it (and some suggested fixes).

I have a gigabyte GA7 mobo, I downloaded the latest drivers from their website but they were the same as on my pc. Is there a more up to date version I can get?

Probably not – but again, do a google search and see what other users have done.

Ian_Woodcock is right, the driver does need updating. This is wha worked for me. This is a wholistic tutorial so please try to ignor things that have been said and have patience with this bit of help. don’t have time to type something new for every forum

FOR ADVANCED USERS REFERENCING THIS PAGE
Bottom line is that Silicon Image usually has more up to date driver than your motherboard manufacturer’s support site. Try using thei driver through this support page:
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/index.asp

FOR MORE DETAILS SEE BELOW

The "si3112r.sys" file is a driver for a Silicon Image RAID hard driv array. Since this driver is almost certainly an onboard component o your motherboard I would first check your motherboard manufactuer’ website to see if they have an updated driver there. You can check th version of your driver by

1. Right-Click on "My Computer" and click "Properties
2. Click on the tab entitled "Hardware
3. Click on the button entitled "Device Manager
4. A window entitled "Device Manager" will come up, and in the windo will be a list of computer components you have in your system. Clic on the plus sign next to the device that is entitled "SCSI and RAI controllers
5. In the menu that then drops down, right-click on the devic entitled "Silicon Image SiI 3512 SATARaid Controller" and clic "Properties" NOTE: That is exactly the name of my particula controller, considering the driver that you are having problems wit yours should most likely be identical, however the number could b slightly different
6. Click on the tab entitled "Driver
7. Midway down the tab you will see a label entitled "Drive Version:". The number after it is then your driver version. On you motherboard manufacturers website, when you find the page that support your type of motherboard and then find the driver page, under th SATA/RAID section you should find something similar. NOTE – Also o under this tab you should also notice the button entitled "Updat Driver…

If the version on the motherboard support page is newer (greater tha the number you see) then update the driver. Otherwise if it is equa to the number you see continue on with this post. (My motherboar manufacturer (Gigabyte) did not have an updated driver for me, so I ha to do the following

—–GET AN UPDATED DRIVER FROM SILICON IMAGE DIRECTLY—- NOTE: If done incorrectly, or the driver that you choose from Silico Image is an incorrect version it could render your system unbootabl because Windows will NOT recognize your hard drive array. Approac this step with much caution

1. Go to Silicon Image’s site and go to their support site http://www.siliconimage.com/support/index.asp

2. Select your RAID controller (in this case SiI 3112

3. Select DRIVE

4. Select your operating system and click G

5. For me, it comes up with 3 links midway down the page, the one tha I wanted (and that you should want too) is: SiI3x12 32-bit Window SATARAID Driver. Notice that right next to it is a version number (a the time of the writing of this page the version for XP was 1.00.51) a the time this version number was greater for me than what I currentl had, so I downloaded the driver

After unzipping everything (there should be two files to unzip) g ahead and update the driver as detailed above (under the last sectio pay attention to the NOTE portion). The steps should be fairl intuitive from there. If you have problems updating your drivers, o don’t know how, there are plenty of sites online that will help yo with that (search Google for "XP updating drivers" or some such

CAUTION: This post is mainly meant for people that are fairly familia with XP, this worked great for me and I hope it helps others. If yo crash your system though because you didn’t know what you were doing don’t blame me
