Hello,

Is the only time that I would want to Apply a profile to an image when the image does not already contain a profile? Otherwise, if I have an image with an existing profile and I want to change the profile do I then convert? As well if I have an RGB devise that captures only in sRGB can I convert to a wider color space or has the gamut already been clipped? I am not sure if a profile is tagged onto an image and it interprets the data without any destruction of the actual data or if this is a destructive process.

Thanks,

Cliff

The best primer on this question: http://digitalmastery.com/pb It was written by Ben Wilmore and answers all your questions on this manner in plain English. Its around 30 pages, but worth the read.

I think youll find that if you apply or convert a doc thats UNTAGGED the result is the same.

Rob,

This is a great article. I have read many articles and books that deal with color management but none so far that was written as well as this one.

Thanks,

What is your device? For example, my digital camera tags the images as sRGB, which is not correct. If I assign a wider color space, it results in a bigger color range (less contrast trouble).
