I am dumb I admit it. Although I can use Photoshop 6.0 to tweak photographs, I can’t get any of the color tools or eyedroppers or swatches or whatever to work on changing a graphic from black to cyan. The replace color command is greyed out and won’t come into play. Any ideas?

Are you in grayscale or bitmap mode, by chance?

A lot of the tools only work in ‘RGB’ colour mode (Image – Mode – RGB).

As for the replacing colour, try… Image – Adjustments – ‘Selective Color’. Choose Blacks from the drop down menu, then put cyan to 100% and Magenta & Yellow to -100%.

Replace Colour will only work if there is a colour to replace.

Black, White and various tones of grey will be ignored by Replace Colour and by the Hue/Saturation control.

Want to make your Blacks Cyan? One way is to convert the image first to Greyscale and then to Duotone. The Duotone dialogue box will give you infinite control over the Shadow and mid tone colour values.

Hope this helps.

Chris.
