I want to buy a full, legal, registerable version of PS CS (or CS2). The prices are all over the place, and I’m not sure which way to go. I’ve researched the issue in Google Groups, and it seems like this issue easily turns into flame wars. I’d like to avoid that if possible. I just want some insight, considering all the new "cheap software" sites that seem to be popping up everywhere. I’m not looking to rip anybody off, to deny Adobe what is rightfully theirs, do something illegal/unethical, etc, or anything that can be in the least bit construed as "software piracy." I just want the best deal possible on a legitimate version of CS. I’m not a pro, so I likely won’t need to upgrade with every new release. When I was a grad student, I took advantage of student discounts whenever possible, but I can’t do that at this time. But what about these places that sell what they claim are full legit (bulk, cd- or download-only) versions for 1/3 (or less) the retail price? Are they real? Are they legit?
From my professional experience in several technology industries, I’m very familiar with the concept of "gray market," which – if this applies to software – means that Adobe got their due, but only perhaps to be sold in specific situations, markets, currencies, languages, etc.
Please, no flames. If direct from Adobe or a licensed partner, or whatever, at full retail, is the only way to go, then so be it. I’m just looking for direction.
