Nice Flash galleries but these need to be 100% tested by Adobe if we are going to put Photoshop-generated galleries out there…

In Flash Gallery 1, CS2 seems to generate a gallery with a small bug in it: when a user clicks on the thumbnail for the image CURRENTLY being displayed, the thumbnail functionality (mouseover, click etc) dies until the slideshow is run again.

(Is there any way to report this sort of bug to Adobe by email or letter, without going through the whole depressing experience of dealing with a phone helpdesk? I have found several minor bugs and silly features in CS2 already.)

Post them here. The writers check these forums and if any issues turn up a lot, they go and fix them.

I’m impressed with Adobe, and particularly Chris Cox, for their attention to the end users of the software.

Hello. I have more problems with the "Web Photo Gallery" in CS2. What i experience:
– Some Camera-Raw-Files are not properly processed, they appear as a blank box in the gallery (i use of course files that are otherwise perfectly usable in Photoshop etc.)
– With the newly added flash templates: The musicfile "useraudio.mp3" is copied to the resulting target directory, but does not play in IE or Firefox on Windows (while other websites continue to pester me with their muzak)
– The style "Flash – Gallery 2" should have a dark background, according to the preview in the dialog box, but appears white in both browsers (and that cannot be changed with "custom colors")
– Again the flash templates: Can i tweak them easily, for instance change the interval between to pictures? There are the files "galleryconfig.xml" and "photos.mxl", what could i do there without being a Flash or HTML pro?
Thanks!

I found the answers to a couple of your questions, but have more myself. Hopefully the product developers will read this some day…

First, the time between slides can be configured in the galleryconfig.xml file – look under "showTime". I had some feedback from users that it is too slow by default.

PRODUCT SUGGESTION: Put this important variable into the screen that generates the slideshow.

You may also find the setting "controlScale", in the same file, very useful. I had feedback that users were not spotting the control buttons as they are absolutely microscopic and hidden in the far corner.

PRODUCT SUGGESTION: Increase to 150 percent by default; explain this setting in the manual.

Also I found the "bordersize" setting useful, as the borders are too fat for my photos. I reduced it to 6.

I had no problem with the useraudio.mp3 in some simple experiments here. Perhaps you are generating an mp3 compression setting which IE can’t read?

NEWLY DISCOVERED DUMB DESIGN: The slideshow does not start automatically when the page is opened, but the music does! Furthermore, if we change "playSound" to false, the sound control button is hidden from the user so sound can never be started.
Question: Is there a way to get the slideshow starting automatically? PRODUCT SUGGESTION: Start the slideshow by default when the page is opened (or don’t start the music!).

NEWLY DISCOVERED BUG: Sometimes, when the mp3 track is playing, clicking on the sound-off button does not turn the sound off – instead, it goes back to the start of the mp3 track and plays it again.
PRODUCT SUGGESTION: Fix this so the button performs as expected by users.

This Flash-based web slideshow is really excellent but it needs more development work to get it absolutely right (which is essential because Adobe’s customers will use it to generate slideshows for THEIR customers).

Thanks, sdpage, these are some great answers! Would love to hear more, if you discover more. I must say, when i use the Flash galleries without any changes in the xmls, i do not get a sound control button at all. Have to try if i ever see them somehow.
