I have a repeatable problem with the clone tool in CS2 causing a blue screen system crash under XP. I haven’t been using CS2 long enough to know whether some other tool might also present a problem, but so far only the clone tool is implicated. Using the clone tool in CS installed on the same system causes no such crashes or any other problems. Any thoughts?

(For what it is worth, here is a typical reported system event: Error code 00000019, parameter1 00000020, parameter2 e16188c8, parameter3 e1618ba0, parameter4 0c5b0402. The error code and Parameter1 are constant, but the other parameters vary from event to event.)

Howard,

I recently saw a similar problem on someone else’s computer. It seemed to be aggravated by specific brush sizes. Everything seemed to point to the video driver or adapter. We found some errors recorded in the Windows Event Log pointing to a particular DLL. Have you looked there? And yes, CS2 does seem to have a new screen refresh paradigm.

To make a long story short, he had to take the system to a repair shop where they found and removed some spy ware. Yes he was using Norton antivirus. It wasn’t my machine, so I did not get the particulars. You might want to look in that direction.

Cheers, Rags 🙂

Thanks for the response. There are no event logs pointing to a DLL issue, and I have checked for spy ware. The blue screen error message is BAD_POOL_HEADER.

blue screens in xp are driver errors. try updating your video driver.

BAD_POOL_HEADER is a driver error:

msdn < http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e n-us/ddtools/hh/ddtools/bccodes_41b509a7-4580-4fd8-b22d-2824 8e000e32.xml.asp>

they usually occur when a driver attempts to write outside it’s allocated memory.

This error was reported to our technical support department and we have been able to reproduce the problem on our end but at this time are not sure as to where the problem lies.

May I ask if you are running Pivot Pro or any rotational software? If so, does switching to landscape mode fix the problem?

We would be interested in knowing if the problem occurs when not in a rotated mode.

Thanks
Darv

I am running Pivot Pro on a dual monitor setup. The primary (CRT) monitor, typically used for CS2 and the image files, in set to zero rotation, while the second (LCD) monitor (on which typically I run Bridge) is set to 90 degrees. I’ll play with it for a while in landscape mode and see if it makes a difference.
