CS2 AND Bridge — Memory Allocation

Sorry if this has been asked and buried somewhere in another topic. What I’m wondering.. running 3gHz Pentium 4 with 2gbs of Ram. I’ve seen recommendation to assign approx 66% of available ram to CS2 which I can do in preferences. What I’m wondering is whether any of the assigned ram is also used by Bridge (since its a separate application) and/or would that percentage be too high to also have Bridge running well?

Any feedback on how much Ram that Bridge should have available? I obviously also have to leave some for the OS to run (XP Pro, SP2).

I’d imagine Bridge uses it’s own memory seeing as it uses a completely different executable from PhotoShop. Bridge does seem to use a HUGE amount of memory sometimes for some reason… From a clean restart (Windows XP SP2) starting Bridge and it takes up over 70mb of ram when it updates its thumbnails. Soon as it is done updating, it drops down to 5mb.

Bridge doesn’t have any RAM controls, nor does it share RAM with Photoshop.

Thanks. Then the question is how much Ram should I ideally leave available for Bridge by not taking up too much with PS’s Ram controls.

Ie. If I leave settings as-is for my 2gb Ram to 66% for CS2, that leaves about 680mb for OS and Bridge — is that enough, or would some other memory allocation percentage be more advisable to put into PS’s preferences?

That depends on how you use them…
Bridge typically doesn’t need more than 100 Meg (yes, 1.0 can use more – but that’ll be fixed soon).

I’d say not to set Photoshop’s memory usage higher than 80%. But that’s just a guess based on my working habits.
