I am new to Photoshop and am trying out CS2. I can’t figure out how to import/insert an existing jpg image into a layer. I’ve been pretty succesful in figuring out several features of Photoshop, but importing images is not one of them.

Can anyone offer help?

Thanks.

Copy and paste, or drag and drop from the layers pallette

In CS2 you can use the Place command

Thanks for the help.

Place and drop/drag work. For some reason I am not able to copy and paste. I’ll figure that one out.

How do you retain transparency, or if necessary, delete one color (background color) to create transparency?

js
1 – ctrl + A on source image

2- ctrl + C

3 – switch to destination image and ctrl + V

a variation on the above should do the job nicely

basically, you need a selection to define what to copy. Ctrl+A will select everything(on the layer that you have selected anyway).

4 – ctrl + D clears the selection (eg Select > Deselect)
