A client supplied me with a two-color logo, black plus PMS 873b, in the form of a JPEG and a TIFF. Typically, we work with line art, which is very easy to spot color separate. When I place either the JPEG or TIFF in Illustrator or InDesign in order to design a business card and then print to color separations, CMYK separations are my only option. I tried creating a spot color channel in Photoshop but the channel quality was not sound. Is there an easier way to do this that I’m not aware of?

Thanks so much.

TIFF and JPG do not support spot colors so there’s your problem right there.

K.A.

To retain spot colour you will need to create a spot colour channel and paste the required content into that channel and then save as either PSD or EPS DCS2 for placement in InDesign or Illustrator

I would discourage the use of DCS files at this point. There’s simply no need. Use PSD or PDF.
