I recently updated my PC with two SATA HDDs. I was able to install XPP and everything else but not CS2. It starts the installation and completes writing to the HDD then BAM!, the BSOD and a reboot. The blue screen indicates that "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and advises to check if any new hardware / software is properly installed.
Why is everything else working and not the CS2 installer?
I seem to have the latest drivers from Giga-Byte. The mobo is an 8INX7.

Thanks for the suggestion. I in fact, planned on doing just that very same thing this evening after deleting the two (yes two) separate installs of CS2. I will clean the registry with Registry Mechanic prior to copying the contents of the CD to a folder on the HDD. My suspicion is that you are correct in assuming that it might be a problem with the CD-ROM driver. I’ve installed all my other camera programs (Capture One, DPP, etc.) without any problems.
What patch level are you at with Windows XP. I would suggest going to SP2 as XP original and SP1 have some issues with supporting SATA.
If you overclock your machine, try setting the PCI bus to a fixed 33MHZ or set you CPU freq back to original. Some HDD and CMROM are sensitive to non standard PCI Bus Freq.
My machine is stock. Settings are all stock. SP2 is installed since PS/CS2 complained that it needed at least SP1 in order to load so I went ahead and installed SP2 as well. I do not overclock my machines. This is a P4 3.02GHz, 2M RAM. With all that horsepower there’s no need to goose it up. If I need a faster machine rather than overclock, I just go out and get a faster processor.
One more suggestion, Your motherboard BIOS version. On my ABIT motherboard, the older BIOS has problem supporting a combination of SATA and EIDE devices.
Are you looking for a Socket 478 or LGA775 motherboard? ABIT Socket 478 motherboards are pretty solid even with overcloking. I use an ABIT myself. I have also heard good things about ASUS motherboard.
Hi Ron , This type of error is difficult to troubleshoot. First go to system properties (right click on my computer, left click on properties) Go to advanced tab Select "startup and recovery" In system failure uncheck "automatically reboot" (this will prevent automatic rebbot upon stop error. Replicate error – usually it will be STOP error and write down all info (Stop error number and what device driver or service or process is at fault. Look for something like this: (**STOP: 0x0000000D1 (0x0000000D,0x0000005,0x00000001,0xF74D7352) then atapi.sys-address F74D7352 base at F74D5000, datestamp 3d6ddb04) Do Google search on that stop error. Good luck.
Thanks for the tip. Here is what I found out so far:
I got CS2 to load. That was after I updated the SATA drivers from Gigabytes website. Now my CD and DVD drives are very pokey. I suspect that the mobo, (about 1.5 years old) might need to be replaced. My thinking is that it 8INX7 is too old for the speedy CDs/DVDs/SATA drives. I hate to replace something that I’m not certain is the problem, but I’ve run out of alternatives. BTW the DVD is a new Plextor and the CD is a no-name 52X that worked very well prior to updating the HDDs.
The good news, besides saving a bunch of money by swithing to Geico, is that I did get CS2 to load. The bad news is that I really question the performance of the update and think that a new mobo will offer some solution.
Hi Ron, Glad to hear that CS2 is loaded and working. Not sure what might be with cd/dvd, try to disconnect (ide cable and power) on CD and DVD, reboot, shut down, reconect and reboot again – that might force windows to redetect devices correctly. Appart of that do not know what else to suggest.
IF the board is Nforce and your using nvidia ide drivers, try changing to the plain jane Microsoft ide driver. Nforce ide has been touch and go for many.
