I have heard about putting the OS on "C" drive and programs on "D" for Windows.
Some people think that when the OS goes away and they need to reinstall the OS they have less problems.
That does not mean the programs don’t need to be reinstalled. There are still registry keys that need to be created in the new OS to make the programs work.
I don’t see a benefit. Maybe the programs run faster. I don’t know. XP can repair itself, to some extent.
Norton Systems Works can help you avoid trouble but is a resource hog. I have a second computer where I run Norton Systems Works from the cd on occasion, without installing the program. In that case, I did install Norton Anti virus 2005.
This checks my system without hogging the resources.
