I got 2 rings that are shot digitally so they are nice and sharp. Now I need to polish the platinum a bit and ad some shine to the sapphire. Is there a trick to work with jewelry. How do they make it so shiny on the ads?

Depending on how bad of condition the original in the photo is, this tutorial might help with the metal.

As for the other, try doing a google search for “Photoshop Orb” or “Photoshop Ball” or “Photoshop Glass” and you should get more tutorials than you can shake a stick at for adding artificial reflective glare to the stone which is how you would make it look more shiny.

You could also make or download a four corner star brush to add a few highlight specks here and there (very sparingly) but instead of going to all of this trouble, it might be easier to just polish the rings and take the photo again with them under studio light (or at least good lighting without just an on camera flash) so you can capture all this stuff in reality – which is how “they” *try* to do it most of the time.
