OK, I have gotten my head around allot of Photoshop, all by trial and error, but one thing still stumps me

LAYER MASKING

I can activate the mask and it can make hard edge masking, but I really want make a transition:- two images dissolving into each other.

How do it create the fading transparency?

Put a gradient from white to black in the layer mask.
