I recently upgraded my NVidia driver to Forceware v71.84. Since then, I keep getting the "Could not initialize photoshop because the icc profile is invalid" message. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed (twice!), removed all icc profiles (from all locations), reset preferences, run Gamma Loader, downloaded the profile for my monitor from the manufacturer (which was only amended last week) and still no luck. Is it the driver causing the conflict? If so, why? I’m loathe to roll back to the previous driver as this one is great for FS2004!

I’d appreciate any help you can give!

Rob,

removed all icc profiles (from all locations), <<

Then you will need to re-install Photoshop to put them back!

Having done that, run Adobe Gamma from the C/Panel (That’s Adobe Gamma.CPL NOT Adobe Gamma Loader.exe!), load the sRGB profile as your starting point, change the text in description field to something meaningful to you, follow the on-screen instructions and finally save to a NEW filename.

Thanks Len,

I’ve been running Gamma Loader.exe! I’ll give that a run.

Nope, that didn’t work, either!

Some more info: I can initialise ImageReady without any problems – it’s just Photoshop that won’t start.

Even rolling back to the original driver hasn’t worked. Anyone have any other ideas?

You still haven’t replaced your display profile (the one that’s most likely corrupt).

Thanks Chris, I’m not sure which one that is? I’ve used Gamma Loader to update the profile for my monitor; is that the one you mean?

Gamma Loader doesn’t do anything visible – it just loads the profile at boot time. Adobe Gamma creates profiles for your display or modifies existing profiles.

Did you create a new profile for your display using Adobe Gamma? If so, what profile did you use as a starting point?

Yes, I used the one for my monitor (LG700S). What I didn’t do was restart after I made it the profile. I’ll give that a go and let you know how it goes.

Start with a GOOD profile (like sRGB), not one already known to be broken. Just make sure you save it to a new filename when you’re done.

that’s of course assuming you haven’t overwritten the srgb profile. if so, reinstall the app and start from scratch. THIS time DON’T overwrite the default profiles! 🙂

Nope, tried all that and still no luck. Getting very discouraged but grateful for your help nonetheless!
