I am casually considering a membership with the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, but i’m not sure it’s worth the hundred bucks. Is anyone here a member of NAPP? Is it worth it?

Yes, it’s definately worth it – the magazine alone is worth it.

Besides, you get discounts on not only their programs/workshops, but also hardware/software discounts from vendors. If you’re in the market to buy anything substantial, you can save the cost of membership on one or two purchase alone.

Then you also have forums dedicated to photoshop at your disposal as well as many free or low cost actions, plug-ins etc. which can be downloaded.

If you join, please use my name as your referral.

NAPP has a big annual convention featuring the best PS teachers and workshops plus the opportunity to mingle with other Photoshoppers(?). You’ll get the member discount on that as well.

For signing up you also get their "training dvd" and whatever else they have to offer.

Another benefit to NAPP is that you can ask a pro how to do something that is driving you nuts.

Plus their help desk people and their customer service people are great!!! I have emailed the help deskon several occasions and called customer service to ask permission to reprint articles for my class and they have always been very helpful. And it’s a whole lot cheaper than buying Photoshop User on the newsstands.

-The above mentioned costs and savings and deals apply to United States citizens only.

-The tutorials are great for beginners; the PS User mag. ok for intermediates who have not received the mag for a couple of years…lots of repetitious tips. They do put out a special mag for the update of Ph CS2 and go out whole hog to bring everyone up-to-date and up-to-snuff, quickly.

-Most staff are long time author/teachers who write for students; rather than their peers. You can usually read their stuff in past publications or re-purposed publications on the net through google. Their workshops are fantastic and extrememly expensive. A complaint is that the material is redundant from workshop to workshop from city to city.

So do your research well. hth

I’ve found that in the past, if you just call them, they will let you know what the particular course covers and if material is being repeated. I think NAPP is worth every penny.

…. And if you sign up before the end of June (with a code I’ll have to get back to you on if you are interested), they’ll send you the best of Photoshop User DVD (something like a $60) value for free… Take that, the free mag and a discount for the Mac Design Confrence and/or Photoshop Word and you have gone into it saving you more than it cost you.

I signed up at the NY photoshow. Have not received any magazine or any written material. Just get e-mails.

It would appear that their office staff is less than ideal.
