I have to create an invitational flyer for a request at work. I am relatively new to photoshop and imageready although I can manuever pretty well through it. And usually go through the tutorials and can get alot accomplished that way. I would like to know if anyone knows where I can look at a few type of invitational flyers so I can get an idea of what to do and what direction to go in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, your first step may be in choosing the right tool. If this is going to be something with a fair amount of wording and mixed graphics, you’d be better off with a program like Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Indesign, using Photoshop for the image editing…

What is this flyer for? What kind of information and how much information do you need on it? ie. – a map, logos, photos, bulleted points…

This will be a private invitational for a brokerage event. Some bulleted points and mainly pictures and some floating text. I appreciate the help. If Illustrator is what is required please let me know as I will order it.

There’s no reason you can’t use Photoshop for a one page flyer. It’s just that the other applications are a bit better suited for the purpose.

It isn’t "required" exactly, but it would be better for the task. Esentially, you’d be using it as a page layout program for the text, logos and photos…

As for Illustrator, before you order it, I’d suggest downloading the trial. If you are not familiar with working in that kind of a program, it might not be an option for you with this particular project (depending on your deadline) and if it is, you may be able to do everything you need to in the 30 days that it is good for.

Now, you were asking if we knew where you could look at a few… Are you trying to find layout ideas? If so, that is actually the easy part. For what you are doing, you can probably get some ideas by looking through the ads in a few industry magazines… A lot of direct mail pieces would probably have a style similar to the kind of layout you might need…

How creative do you need to get with this? I mean, what are they expecting out of you in terms of dynamic design?

they aren’t expecting professional marketing obviously because I am an analyst who likes to dable, not a marketing major… but I have created some nice and simple flyers in the past but want to make something a little more vibrant and exciting. The main purpose of this will be to have a few pictures of the building the brokerage event is for and maybe a paragraph of text if that… with contact information for RSVP’ing and some mention of our prizes… apple shuffle’s… Also does anyone know how easy it is to insert this into an outlook email with the html still working within it? or does this also require special software?
