I’m looking for a Photoshop 7 RAW plugin to support my Canon D20 camera. Extension is CR2. Does one exist? If so, where could I find this? Thanks for the help.

The only way to get RAW support for that camera in Photoshop is to upgrade to CS1 or CS2. As of the release of Photoshop CS2 there are not future updates to camera RAW for CS1 and then updates for Photoshop 7 ended when it was replaced by Photoshop CS1.

Adobe now milks Camera RAW support. They use to force upgrades. Dirty trick, but effective.

While Mr. Barnett is entitled to his opinion, his opinion is not shared by all (or even most).

When a host application, such as Photoshop CS or CS2 has been changed-considerably in the case of CS2, there is no simple way to go back in time and re-engineer code retroactively for previous host application support. While Mr. Barnett would like to see this as a conspiracy, in fact it’s a function of writting code. Camera Raw 3.x could _NOT_ be made to work in Photoshop CS let alone Photoshop 7.

If Mr. Barnett had half a clue about writting plug-ins, he would be aware of this.

In an attempt to help the original poster, Canon ALSO dropped support for their plug-in development (a point Mr. Barnett fails to mention) so if you have a Canon 20D you’ll need to use the Canon supplied software to convert from RAW to tiff for use in Photoshop 7.

Jeff, that is such bill sh*t and you know it. The only reason Adobe decided to drop camera RAW as a plug-in when they released CS1 was as a way to force people to upgrade. There is no reason what so ever that Adobe couldn’t have continued Camera RAW as a paid extra plug-in that worked will all versions of Photoshop. They only reason they didn’t is because they wanted to use it to help force people to upgrade.

Camera Raw 2.x in Photoshop CS deployed functionality that would have precluded Camera Raw 2.x from being developed for hosting in Photoshop 7 without code changes in Photoshop 7. If you don’t understand the implications of forward migrating coding, I would suggest you keep your "opinions" you yourself.

As for Camera Raw 3.x being able to be rev’ed for use in Photoshop CS, same problem. For Mac at least, Camera Raw 3.x is being developed as a Mach O .plugin format that would preclude Camera Raw 3 from being hosted in Photoshop CS since CS can’t use .plugin format plug-ins. I presume there are similar constraints regarding the Win version of Camera Raw 3 as well.

I suppose, if users were willing to accept the halt of development and progess of newer versions of plug-ins and host apps in exchange for backwards compatibility, Adobe _COULD_ continue to develop new plug-ins that could work in older host apps. How much loss of functionality and feature reduction would YOU tolerate for this?

What you are alledging is the horse manure in this thread dooode. You simply don’t know any better. Nor did your answer do any good for the user who posted, it was a rant, as you are inclined to do anyway. As such, your usefulness is severely limited.

Hello

If there was a will, there would be a way.
It is after all a Import filter.

You might be able to use Photoshop Elements 3.0.
It imports a subset of RAW 3.1 at 16 bit.

What I am supposed to take you word for it. I trust you about as far as I should throw you. You come across as an arrogant, know it all as*. Frankly, Adobe would be better off if they kept you muzzled and locked in a closet.

My, that’s useful. . .and so on topic too.

Do you get anything out of coming to the forums Robert?

You certainly don’t contribute much of value.
